High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) Movie Review

Does High School Musical 3: Senior Year hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off with the Wildcats winning. Trot Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) are talking about where their relationship is headed, and…

I think that only one of the couples who were together at my high school graduation is still together right now.

Anyway, Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed) is trying to get a musical together and Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) is all “This is my moment!” Kelsi (Olesya Rulin) makes everyone participate, and….

I am pretty sure that she can’t do that.

Anyway, the musical is “Senior Year.” Sharpay, Ryan, Kelsi and Troy are up for a scholarship at  Juilliard. Sharpay tries to manipulate her way into getting the scholarship. Sharpay then meets Tiara Gold (Jemma McKenzie-Brown) and everyone thinks that Tiara is pulling a Sharpay on Sharpay.

Gabriella gives Troy a dancing lesson in preparation for prom. Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman) and Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu) have some dance invitation drama. Troy and Chad have a nostalgic trip to Reilly’s Auto Parts. Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel) asks Kelsi to prom, and…

I’m pretty sure that Ryan was romantically involved with everyone in the High School Musical franchise except for Kelsi.

Anyway, Tiara hears that Gabriella got into the  Stanford Freshman’s Honors Program. Tiara informs Sharpay, Sharpay to Troy is all “This is all your fault!” Troy is all “Gabriella, we’re a high school relationship! We’re not going to last!”

Troy and Jack (Troy’s dad) (Bart Johnson) get into an argument over college, and…

I’m sure that a ton of my high school readers can relate.

Anyway, Troy has a breakdown in the high school theater. Ms. Darbus sees this and is all “Woah! Troy had a breakdown!” We then find out that Mrs. Darbus is helping Troy get into Juilliard.

Gabriella is all “I’m not coming back for prom or graduation!” Troy and Gabriella have their own prom at Stanford University (insert eye roll here).

Jimmie “Rocket Man” Zara (Matt Prokop) is Troy’s understudy; however, Sharpay is less than impressed. Troy and Gabriella make a cameo appearance. Tiara reveals that she is pulling a Sharpay on Sharpay; but, Sharpay gets the last laugh.

It turns out that Kelsi and Ryan are going to Juilliard. Troy is going to the University of California, Berkeley. Taylor is going to Yale University. Sharpay and Chad are going to the University of Albuquerque. We end with everyone graduating high school and everyone getting into the High School Musical position (that came out wrong).

High School Musical 3: Senior Year is a completely unnecessary sequel to High School Musical. I did like it more than High School Musical 2 and it does tackle some real-life issues that high school seniors face. They (obviously) had more of a budget this time. More of the same.
