Does Star Wars: The Force Awakens hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off with the First Order going after the New Republic. The Resistance resists The First Order and General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) is in charge of the Resistance. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is missing in action.

Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) gets a Luke map; however, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) takes Poe. 

We then meet Rey (Daisy Ridley).

FN-2187 (John Boyega) betrays the First Order and he rescues Poe. FN-2187 is christened Finn.  Poe “dies.” Finn stumbles upon Rey and BB-8; however, the First Order is hot on their heels; so, Rey and Finn take the Millennium Falcon and they leave Jakku.

Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) join the group. We get a little detour. 

Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) gives General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) an okay on going after the New Republic. We then find out from Diet Coke that Kylo Ren is Ben Solo (Han Solo’s son) and Kylo goes full teenage boy on the matter.

We then reunite with Han and company and we find out that one of Luke’s apprentices went full Anakin Skywalker on Luke. 

We then meet Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o). Rey finds Anakin’s lightsaber and she relives her abandonment. Maz offers Rey the lightsaber; but, Rey is all “Later!” and she goes into the woods; so, Maz gives the lightsaber to Finn.

Starkiller Base demolishes the New Republic. The First Order comes; but, the still-alive Poe stops the First Order from harming Han, Chewbacca and Finn. We then get a Han-Leia reunion. Kylo Ren realizes that Rey has valuable information. He knocks her out and bridal carries her, and…

Ah, yes. The scene that launched a thousand ships.

…and takes her. Kylo tries to get into Rey’s mind; but, Rey gets into his mind. Kylo leaves Rey to complain to Snorky and Rey manipulates a stormtrooper into letting her leave.

We then reunite with R2-D2. Han, Chewbacca and Finn get onto Starkiller Base. They reunite with Rey and they rig the facility. Han tries to pull a Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi with Kylo Ren/Ben Solo; however, this fails and Kylo commits patricide. Chewbacca retaliates against Kylo and Chewie and Poe take part in an assault on Starkiller Base.

We get a Finn versus Kylo Ren battle. We get a Rey versus Kylo Ren battle and Rey wins. Snorkel wants to reunite with Kylo Ren. Chewbacca, Finn and Rey get onto the Millennium Falcon. Starkiller Base is destroyed and R2-D2 reveals Luke’s location.

We end with Rey finding Luke. We also end with Rey holding Luke’s lightsaber for two years (that came out wrong). 

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a triumphant return for the Star Wars franchise.
