Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) Movie Review

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace time, baby!

So we start off with a Superman/Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) rescue scene. It turns out that Supes/Clark inherited the farm from his parents. We then find out that David Warfield (Sam Wanamaker) is now in charge of the Daily Planet. David gets rid of Perry White (Jackie Cooper) and David hires Lacy (Mariel Hemingway). Lacy is David’s daughter, and…

All of Clark’s scenes with Lacy are like something out of a 1930s screwball comedy.

Anyway, Supes decides to rid the world of its nuclear weapons. Lenny Luthor (Jon Cryer) helps Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) get out of prison, and…

Kid/teen sidekicks are never a good sign and the powers that be are not capable of making Lenny Luthor bearable.

Lex (unsurprisingly) wants the world to have nuclear weapons. Lex winds up creating Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow), and…

Nuclear Man is a character that should’ve stayed in cheesy 1930s/1940s/1950s sci-fi movies.

Anyway, we get a Supes versus Nuclear Man battle and Nuclear Man manages to weaken Supes. We then reunite with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and Supes is able to repair his battle damage. We then get more of Supes and Nuclear Man fighting. Nuclear Man develops an obsession with Lacy after just seeing a picture of her. Nuclear Man takes Lacy; but, Supes is able to save Lacy and he gets rid of Nuclear Man.

Perry White re-gains control of the Daily Planet. Lex goes back to prison and Lenny winds up in Boys Town. Supes is all “Yay! World peace!”

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace had good intentions; but, it is cheesy.
