Fear time!
So we start off by meeting Nicole Walker (Reese Witherspoon). Nicole resides with Steven (her dad) (William Petersen), her stepmom Laura (Amy Brenneman) and Toby (Laura’s son). Nicole’s friends are Margo Masse (Alyssa Milano) and Not-Tom Welling Gary Rohmer (Todd Caldecott). Nicole meets David McCall (Marky Mark/Mark Wahlberg)).
We then get the famous/infamous rollercoaster scene, and…
This movie came out before my time; so, I do not know the impact on the generation that watched this.
Anyway, Nicole and David eventually have er… ice cream… and this scene is mostly an excuse for some Mark Wahlberg/Reese Witherspoon fanservice. Steven is not happy and David reacts violently to Not-Tom Welling. Nicole calls things off; but, David “fixes” things.
Nicole believes that David and Margo had er… ice cream; but, it turns out that David forced Margo to have er… ice cream… with him.
Nicole to David is all “Dude! You cheated on me! We are so done!” David coerces Margo. David offs Not-Tom Welling.
More David action. David follows Nicole into a mall and he follows her into a women’s restroom. Steven finds out that David wrecked his car, and…
A moment of silence for Steven’s car, please.
…
…
…
Anyway.
Steven goes to David’s residence and he discovers a Reese Witherspoon shrine (complete with completely out-of-nowhere Chucky doll), and…
That’s not creepy AT ALL.
Anyway, Steven gives David’s residence the car treatment. David’s groupies (Logan (Tracy Fraim), Terry (Jason Kristofer), Knobby (Jed Rees), Hacker (Gary Riley), Fleegle, Snorky, Bingo, Drooper, the Professor and Mary Ann work on operation Kidnap Nicole.
Margo to the Walkers is all “Not-Tom Welling is dead.” David does his best Wicked Witch of the West/Alex Forrest impression on Kaiser (the Walkers’ dog). Laura drills Hacker, and…
Get your mind out of the gutter.
…and Knobby has to get Hacker to the hospital because even evil henchmen need medical attention. Terry (conveniently) offs the Walkers’ security guard.
Steven becomes a captive. Toby uses Laura’s car phone and he offs Terry. Logan tries to make Nicole have er… ice cream… with him.
David offs Logan. Toby helps Steven and Steven goes after David. David gets the upper hand; but, Nicole figuratively, literally and ironically stabs David in the back with a peace pipe. Steven literally and figuratively throws David out the window. Steven to Nicole is all “You need better taste in boyfriends.”
Random thoughts:
1. Was not a fan of Laura calling Nicole a slut.
2. Was not a huge fan of the men (dad versus boyfriend) fighting over who “owned” Nicole angle.
3. Some of the dialogue is trashy.
I like stalker thrillers. This movie to me is like candy. It’s not good for me; but, it is a guilty pleasure.
