Does The Incredibles hold up?
Let’s find out:
So we start off with Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) stopping a suicide attempt, and…
This movie is darker than I remember.
Anyway, Bob finds out that Bomb Voyage is doing a robbery. Not-Annie Wilkes Buddy Pine (voiced by Jason Lee) wants to be the Robin to Bob’s Batman; but, Bob is not interested. Bomb Voyage plants a bomb on Buddy. Bob manages to defuse that situation; but, part of a train track gets ruined; so, Bob has to stop a little Murder on the Orient Express. Bob marries Helen Truax /Elastigirl (voiced by Holly Hunter). Train passengers who got hurt are upset over A-Train incident, and…
Robin’s death was kind of a big deal.
So, the powers that be go all The Boys. The Superhero Relocation Program happens, superheroes are no more and superheroes are stuck living a Stepford Wives type of life.
Years pass. Bob and Helen have three kids: Violet Parr (voiced by Sarah Vowell), Dash Parr (voiced by Spencer Fox) and Jack-Jack Parr (voiced by Eli Fucile and Maeve Andrews). Bob works as a claims adjuster and his job looks like an animated version of depression. Bob does vigilante work with Lucius Best/Frozone (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson). Gilbert Huph (voiced by Wallace Shawn) interferes with Bob’s stopping-a-mugging plans. Bob retaliates. He is let go, and…
Inconceivable!
We then meet Mirage (voiced by Elizabeth Peña), and…
When I was a kid, I thought that Mirage’s name sounded like migraine.
Anyway, Mirage tasks Bob with stopping a robot and he does so. Bob has fan favorite character Edna Mode (voiced by Brad Bird) fix his suit. We get a third-act rom-com misunderstanding and Edna creates new outfits for the fam.
Bob finds out that Mirage is in cahoots with Syndrome (older Buddy) (who looks like Chucky). We find out that Buddy went to the Alex Forrest School of Handling Superhero Sidekick Rejection, and…
Bob’s just lucky that his Annie Wilkes never kidnapped him and took him to a remote cabin, and…
Sidebar/Salad Bar: I would probably watch that Incredibles movie.
Bob discovers that Syndrome is going all The Boys on superheroes. He also discovers that Frozone may be in danger.
On the Helen side, Helen discovers her husband’s secret activities (that came out wrong). With Edna’s help, Helen is able to find Bob. We then find out that Syndrome is staging a superhero rescue for himself.
Helen goes to Nomanisan (where Bob is). Without Helen’s knowledge, Violet and Dash tagged along. Jack-Jack is being babysat. Syndrome tries to off Helen, Violet and Dash; but, the three wind up making it. Mirage has a change of heart and she helps Bob. Dash and Violet battle against Syndrome’s droids. Syndrome and Omnidroid go to Metroville. Mirage helps the Incredibles get to Metroville.
Syndrome’s plan works at first; however, the Omnidroid defeats him. The Incredibles and Frozone battle and win against the Omnidroid. Syndrome takes Jack-Jack; however, it turns out that Jack-Jack is also a superhero. Helen is able to get Jack-Jack and Syndrome is offed.
We end with the family prepping to do battle against the Underminer (voiced by John Ratzenberger).
The Incredibles is still a good movie.
