Does 13 Going on 30 hold up?

 So we start off in 1987. Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen) wants to get in with the Six Chicks (sounds like the name of a restaurant), and…

The Six Chicks are kind of like the Plastics from Mean Girls.

…and the Six Chicks (sounds like the name of a country music group) are manipulating Jenna. Tom-Tom (Alexandra Kyle) is the Regina George of the Six Chicks.

Jenna’s bestie (Matty Flamhaff (Sean Marquette)) has an unrequited crush on her; so, he makes her a dollhouse, complete with magic dust.

The Six Chicks and Chris Grandy (Jenna’s unrequited crush) (Alex Black)) show up for Jenna’s birthday party and they trick Jenna into believing that Chris is going to play seven minutes in heaven with her. The group leaves with the homework that Jenna did for them, Jenna wishes that she was thirty and her wish comes true.

We transition to 2004. Jenna (now played by Jennifer Garner) is dating someone that she does not recognize and she has no clue what happened during the time leap. Jenna finds out that she is an editor for the magazine Poise. She also finds out that Lucy Wyman (the adult Tom-Tom) (Judy Greer) works with her for Poise. Sparkle (Poise’s main competitor) seems to getting intel from Poise and Richard Kneeland (Peter Jackson darling Andy Serkis) believes that there is a traitor at Poise.

We then reunite with photographer Matty (now played by Mark Ruffalo). We find out that Jenna pulled a Cady in Mean Girls and that Matty and Jenna drifted apart.

Jenna befriends some teenagers. She also starts a “Thriller” dance at a Poise party, and…

This party just turned into a high school pep rally.

…and Jenna meets Wendy (Lynn Collins). Wendy and Matt are engaged and Wendy is kind of like John Jameson in Spider-Man 2; she is a decent person who is there to get sidelined.

Jenna discovers that her adult self is running around with the husband of a co-worker. She discovers that she is estranged from her parents. Jenna finds out that Lucy is trying to stop her from presenting for Poise.

Jenna makes up with her parents. She uses Matty’s work for her presentation and Jenna and Matty start to fall in love.

Lucy tells Matty that Jenna did not use his work and Lucy has Matty sign over the rights. It turned out that alternate universe adult Jenna was the traitor at Poise; but, Lucy beats her to the punch.

Jenna reveals her feelings to Matty; but, Matty believes that they have both moved on and he gives Jenna the dollhouse.

We transition back to 1987. Jenna kisses Matty, Jenna tells Lucy off and Jenna refuses to allow herself to be manipulated by the Six Chicks.

Years pass. Jenna and Matty get married and they move into a house.

13 Going on 30 is a cute rom-com. Garner is so good that you will believe that a thirteen-year-old possessed her while she was filming this. Garner and Ruffalo are charming.
