X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) Movie Review

X-Men: Dark Phoenix time, baby!

So we start off with young Jean Grey (Summer Fontana) causing a car accident that offs her parents. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) visits Jean in the hospital.

Transition to 1992. The X-Men are trying to stage a rescue operation in space. Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) is against taking the X-Jet into space; but, Charles persists. Scott Summers/Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) is skeptical about the X-Jet in space. Hank is also skeptical; but, Mystique/Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) persists.

The X-Jet goes on the rescue mission. Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Pietro/Quicksilver (Evan Peters) work on saving the astronauts; however, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) absorbs a lot of goo.

Raven then has a complaining session.

Alien time! Vuk takes over Jessica Chastain’s body (that came out wrong).

Raven is still moping.

Jean, Scott, Nightcrawler and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) are having a teenage party, baby! Jean has an episode and Hank and Mystique notice.

Charles uses Cerebro to look in Jean’s mind and Jean finds out that her father is still alive. Jean finds her father and we find that her father went to the store to get milk because Jean caused the car crash that offed his wife.

The X-Men come. Raven to Jean is all “The X-Men are your family”; but, Jean offs Raven.

Scott thinks that Jean can be brought back and Hank and Charles have an argument.

Jean goes to see Magneto (Michael Fassbender). Magneto welcomes Jean until the military gets on her scent and Jean’s powers show. Vuk runs into Jean and Beast informs Erik of Mystique’s death. Vuk gets Jean up-to-date on the Phoenix thing.

Magneto and the X-Men come. Jean makes Charles walk. Charles is all “I’m the only father that you’ve ever had” and Jean tries to give the Phoenix power to Vuk (smart idea). Charles figures out that Vuk is evil (well, duh) and Scott stops the Phoenix power transfer process.

The army puts the mutants on a train. Vuk and company attack. Charles and Magneto team up and Jean goes all Phoenix on Vuk and company. This ends with Jean sacrificing herself.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a standard X-Men adventure. It feels like an average blockbuster. There are some good moments.
