X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) Movie Review

Does X-Men: Days of Future Past hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off in 2023. Robot Sentinels are after mutants. These things were designed by mutant experimenter Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). Magneto (Ian McKellan), Charles (Patrick Stewart), Bobby (Shawn Ashmore), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page/Elliot Page) Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry) and Colossus are trying to regroup. Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) set off this chain of events by shooting Trask a long time ago.

Wolverine then gets sent to the 1970s and he is (apparently) having er… ice cream with the daughter of a mob boss. This version of Wolverine is in New York and he is working for the Mafia.

Logan goes to Charles Xavier (James McAvoy)’s institute and Xavier gives Logan a taste of his own F-bomb medicine. Xavier is upset because a lot of people involved with the Institute were drafted. He is also upset because Raven/Mystique ditched him for Michael Fassbender. Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) is giving Charles a serum to help him walk.

We then reunite with Erik/Magneto (Fassbender), who is imprisoned because people think that he killed JFK. The powers that be have Pietro/Quicksilver (Evan Peters) stage a prison break for Erik.

Erik and Charles are angry at each other and Erik is all “I was trying to rescue JFK.”

Bolivar Trask has been doing mutant experimentation. Raven tries to off him; but, Charles, McCoy and Logan put a stop to this. Erik tries to off Raven; but, he is stopped. Trask uses this to his advantage and he talks President Nixon into the Sentinel Prgramme.

Magneto decides to go after the U.S. and Raven (quickly) forgives his murder attempt.

Charles is trying to (unsuccessfully) track Raven. Future Charles Xavier gives Charles a pep talk and this helps.

At Sentinel launch time, Magneto drops RFK Baseball Stadium around the White House. Magneto has manipulated the Sentinels. The Sentinels go after the X-Men. Magneto fends off Wolverine. Raven almost shoots Trask; but, Charles talks her out of it. Raven lets Charles mind control Erik and Erik and Raven leave.

The future is changed. Stewart-Xavier is alive, Scott Summers/Cyclops (James Marsden) is alive and Jean Grey (Famke Jannsen) is alive.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is creative.
