Wonder Woman (2017) Movie Review

Does Wonder Woman hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off with Bruce Wayne giving Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) a photo of Diana and four guys during World War I and Diana reminisces.

Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) is Diana (Lilly Aspell and Emily Carey)’s mom. Hippolyta and Diana live on Themyscira. We find out that Ares tried to get rid of humans. The other gods resisted Ares on this and Zeus even created a god killer to stop Ares. Antiope (Hippolyta’s sister/Diana’s aunt) (Robin Wright) begins Diana’s training.

Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) figuratively and literally crashes on Themyscira. Germans soon come after Steve, Amazons go after the Germans and Antiope gets offed. We find out that Steve is a spy and that he has the notebook of Dr. Isabel Maru / Dr. Poison (Elena Anaya). Dr. Maru is trying to create an even worse form of mustard gas for General Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston). We then get some Chris Pine fanservice and Diana decides to help out the war effort (no word on whether or not Wonder Woman joining the war effort was related to the Chris Pine fanservice).

We go to London and we get some fun making fun of The Princess Diaries/She’s All That glasses trope. The notebook of Maru gets to the Supreme War Council.  Sir Patrick Morgan (David Thewlis) is in talks with Germany. Diana reveals that the Germans are going to use Maru’s gas on the Western Front. Steve enlists the help of Moroccan Sameer (Saïd Taghmaoui), Scottish Charlie (Ewen Bremner) and Native American Chief Napi (Eugene Brave Rock).

We then go to Belgium and we get the famous No Man’s Land scene. Veld is freed. Diana and Steve start to fall in love.

Gala time! Steve wants to destroy the gas and Diana, believing that Ludendorff is Ares, wants to off him. Ludendorff and Diana dance. Steve stops Diana. Ludendorff uses the gas on Veld, Diana offs Ludendorff and nothing changes. We find out that Sir Patrick Morgan is Ares, and…

Superhero movies have a villain problem and this guy is no exception to that rule. He’s serviceable.

Anyway, Steve’s group works on getting rid of Maru’s work. We find out that Diana is the god killer. There is gas headed towards London; so, Steve pulls a Captain America/Batman, gets rid of the gas and dies in the process. Ares tries to convince Diana to off Maru; but, Diana is all “Nah!” and she offs Ares instead.

We then go to the present. Diana sends Bruce a thank you e-mail and her Wonder Woman adventures continue.

Wonder Woman is still a good movie.
