Does Superman II still hold up?
Let’s find out:
So we start off with General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran) being given one-way tickets to the Phantom Zone. However, Zod, Ursa, Non, the Professor and Mary Ann are eventually freed and they have world domination plans, baby.
Superman/Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) and Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) are on assignment in Niagara Falls. Clark’s hand winds up in the fireplace (long story). Lois sees that there is no damage. Clark reveals his secret. He takes her to the Fortress of Solitude, and…
The Fortress of Solitude is no longer The Fortress of Solitude.
Anyway, Clark decides to give up his powers. Clark and Lois have er… ice cream, and…
The Fortress of Solitude/Arctic seems like it would be a cold place for Lois to have ice cream; but, I digress.
Anyway, Zod intimidates the President of the United States. A trucker mistreats Lois and Superman is roughed up. We discover that Zod has taken over and that he wants Superman to treat him like a god. Clark tries to get his powers back.
Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) gets out of prison. Lex visits the Fortress of Solitude and he learns about Zod. Zod and Lex team up. Superman fights against them. Zod, Ursa and Non start blowing (no, not in THAT way). Supes tries to get Zod and company to the Fortress and he tries to make them go into a chamber that will take away their powers. However, Lex ruins this and Zod has Supes go into the chamber. Through the power of deus ex machina, Supes is alright and he has Zod go into a crevice. Non lands in another crevice and Lois puts Ursa in a crevice. Lex is left Home Alone in the Fortress.
Supes gives Lois a mind wipe. Supes visits the aforementioned trucker. Superman promises the president that he will not go on vacation.
Superman II is still a good sequel.
