Does Ant-Man and the Wasp hold up?
Let’s find out:
So we start off with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) working on projects. Janet says goodbye to young Hope.
Years pass. Hank thinks that Janet is still in the land of the living.
We then reunite with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), who is under house arrest. Scott spends his days with Cassie (his daughter) (Abby Ryder Fortson) and he inadvertently draws the attention of the FBI. We then meet Jimmy Woo (Randall Park).
Scott is getting on great with Maggie (Judy Greer) and Jim (Bobby Cannavale). Scott is working with Luis (Michael Peña), Dave (Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris) and Kurt (David Dastmalchian).
However, Scott’s relatively decent existence is ruined by a dream of his where he thinks that he is Michelle Pfeiffer and/or thinks that he is in Michelle Pfeiffer’s body (that came out wrong). Scott calls Hank about his dream (as you do) and Hank and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) essentially kidnap Scott. Hank and Hope have an ant serve Scott’s house arrest. Hank and Hope believe that Janet is trying to talk to them through Scott.
We then meet Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins) and Sonny wants some of those sweet, sweet Pym innovations. Hope becomes the Wasp and she does battle with Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).
We then meet Bill Foster (Laurence Fishbourne), who is a frenemy of Hank’s. We then discover that Hank and Hope need an old suit of Hank’s, that the suit is in a trophy and that Cassie took the trophy to school. This all leads us to a mansion where Scott and Hope are captured, we find out that Ghost is Ava and we find out that Ghost/Ava and Foster are in cahoots.
We find out that Ghost/Ava’s father worked with Hank. Hank arranged for the firing of Ava’s father, Ava’s father wound up accidentally killing himself, Ava was altered and Foster became her surrogate father. Foster wants to sacrifice Janet for Ava’s sake. Hank does his best impression of a Life Alert commercial, Foster falls for it and Hank and Hope wind up continuing their Janet mission.
Hank’s version of the story is that Ava’s father was plagiarizing him. Hope is worried about her upcoming family reunion. We get a Luis monologue.
Janet enters Scott’s body (that came out wrong) and she helps Hope and Hank. Scott almost gets caught on the house arrest thing. The Feds get Hope and Hank; but, Scott helps them.
Scott fends off Ghost, Hank apprehends Foster, Hank goes quantum and Ghost and Burch go after Luis and Hope.
Janet and Hank reunite. Hank brings Janet back and Janet is able to deus ex machina Ava’s condition.
Oh, Scott is no longer on house arrest, by the way.
The reason to stay in the theater during the credits:
1. Thanos Thanoses Hank, Janet and Hope.
2. More ant shenanigans.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun time; but, it has a villain problem.
