High School Musical 2 (2007) Review

Does High School Musical 2 hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off with “What Time Is It?” and Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) is looking for summer employment.

Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel) are country clubbing it for the summer and we get “Fabulous.” Sharpay has arranged for Troy to work at the club, but, Troy brought Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman), Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu) and various Wildcats with him (typical guy move). Sharpay through Thomas Fulton (Mark L. Taylor). tries to get Gabriella, Taylor, Chad and the Wildcats to quit and we get “Work This Out.”

Sharpay offers Troy a deal with the devil: a caddy job and a chance to be on the University of Albuquerque’s basketball team. We get “You Are the Music in Me” and we get “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a.”

Sharpay and Ryan have a falling out and we get  “I Don’t Dance.” Chad is ticked about the way that Sharpay is impacting Troy. Troy is upset because Ryan enjoys Gabriella’s mom’s cookies (get your mind out of the gutter, guys). We get  “You Are the Music in Me (Sharpay Version).”

Sharpay tries to keep the Wildcats from performing. Gabriella has finally had enough and we get “Gotta Go My Own Way.”

Troy finally realizes that Sharpay has been controlling him and we get “Bet on It.” Troy and the Wildcats decide to perform.

We then get “Everyday” and Troy and Gabriella reconcile. We get “You Are the Music In Me (Reprise),” we get “All for One,” and the Wildcats celebrate with fireworks and a pool party.

High School Musical 2 is a completely unnecessary sequel and I was kinda disappointed that they undid Sharpay’s redemption arc at the end of the first movie. The music is catchy.
