Does Captain Marvel hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off by meeting Vers (Brie Larson). Her mentor is Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) and Yon-Rogg takes Vers to see the Supreme Intelligence. We then find out that the Kree are battling the Skrulls. Vers is put on a Kree-saving mission. It turns out that the Kree in question was Talos (a Skrull masquerading as a Kree).

The Skrulls takes Vers (they are looking for Doctor Lawson), Vers finds out that she has Earth memories and she winds up on Earth. SHIELD is notified and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) come. Vers winds up going after a Skrull and another Skrull impersonates Coulson. Fury is put on assignment to find Vers.

Fury finds Vers. Vers wants to go to Project PEGASUS and meet Doctor Lawson (Annette Bening). Fury and Vers find out that one of Doctor Lawson’s projects was a light-speed drive.

We discover that Vers is human and that her name is Carol Danvers (no relation to Kara Danvers). We find out about Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), Fury and Carol find Maria and we find out that Maria has a daughter (Monica  (Akira and Azari Akbar)). Maria gives Carol info on her life. Talos comes and we find out that:

Doctor Lawson was working for the Skrulls. The Skrulls are in danger from the Kree.  Carol is super from trying to keep Rogg from the light-speed drive.

With all this info, Carol decides to work for the Skrulls. We find out that the tesseract is involved. The Kree’s army (Starforce) comes and Carol battles them. We then find out that Doctor Lawson’s cat Goose is an alien, and…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier built this up so much that this is kind of a let down.

…and Carol kicks Rogg’s butt. Carol bids adieu to the Rambeaus and Fury and we get an Avengers tease.

The reason to stay in the theater during the credits:

1. Endgame teaser and Goose antics.

Captain Marvel is still a good movie.
