Spider-Man (2002) Movie Review

Does Spider-Man hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off by meeting Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire). Peter has a crush on Mary Jane “MJ” Watson (Kirsten Dunst). Peter’s best friend is Harry Osborn (James Franco) and Harry’s father (Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe)) prefers Peter to Harry. Peter gets bitten by a spider.

Norman performs a science experiment on himself, he loses his marbles and he becomes the Green Goblin.

Anyway, we all know Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson), “With great power comes great responsibility,” and Uncle Ben’s famous death.

We then meet J. Jonah Jameson (J. K. Simmons), and…

There is a reason why J. K. Simmons is so iconic in this role.

We then get a Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin battle. The Green Goblin visits J. Jonah Jameson, the goblin tries to convince Spider-Man to join him, Spider-Man saves MJ from some creeps and Spider-Man saves a baby from a burning building.

We then get the most awkward Thanksgiving dinner ever and the Green Goblin crashes Aunt May (Rosemary Harris)’s prayer time.

The Green Goblin kidnaps Mary Jane and a trolley car full of kids, he drops Mary Jane and the car of kids from a height and Spider-Man saves the car of kids and Mary Jane. We get another Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin battle and Norman/the Goblin dies.

Harry Osborn starts his journey to becoming Inigo Montoya and this movie breaks up Peter and Mary Jane so that they can get together in the sequel.

Spider-Man is a campy movie; but, it is a fun popcorn movie.
