Does The Avengers hold up?
Let’s find out:
So we start off with an introduction to Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Loki brainwashes Hawkeye/Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Loki confounds Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
We then reunite with Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who is roughing up some Russian mobsters.
Natasha then goes to get Bruce Banner/the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and…
I know that a lot of people hate the Bruce-Natasha relationship; but, I don’t because:
1. Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo have chemistry.
2. There is a darkness in Bruce and there is a darkness in Natasha.
3. Natasha knows what to expect from the rest of the Avengers (snarky billionaire in Tony, patriot in Steve Rogers, norse god in Thor, etc.).
We then reunite with Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans).
We then reunite with Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), who is spending quality time with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).
We then reunite with Loki, who is stealing an eyeball.
We then get a Captain America vs. Loki fight. The Avengers are able to detain Loki; but, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) shows up and kidnaps Loki. Thor and Loki have a dramatic family discussion until we get a Captain America vs. Thor vs. Iron Man fight.
Loki is imprisoned in the Avengers helicarrier. Bruce and Tony are getting along; but, Tony and Steve are not getting along. Natasha pays Loki a little visit and the two play hot potato until Natasha finds out that Loki’s villain plan includes the Hulk.
The Helicarrier is attacked, Bruce becomes the Hulk, Natasha brings Clint back to normal, Loki offs Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Loki escapes.
We then get the excellent Battle of New York and Thor escorts Loki back to Asgard.
The Avengers is still a fun popcorn movie.
