Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) Movie Review

Does Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off at Malfoy Manor. Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) and Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) have a reunion. Hedwig and Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson) are offed.

We find out that Dumbledore left:

1. Golden Snitch to Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe)

2. Deluminator to Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint)

3. The Tales of Beedle the Bard to Hermione Granger (Emma Watson)

Death Eaters crash the wedding of Bill Weasley (Domhnall Gleeson) and Fleur Delacour (Clémence Poésy).

We then find out that Regulus Black/Sirius’ brother took Slytherin’s Locket from Voldemort. We then find out that the locket wound up with Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton). Harry, Ron and Hermione go on a getting-rid-of Horcruxes quest.

We find out that Gryffindor’s sword has basilisk venom in it. We need a third-act rom-com misunderstanding; so, Ron gets upset over Harry and Hermione and he (Ron) leaves in a huff. Harry and Hermione notice things about their gifts and it looks like Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch)’s dad/Xenophilius (Rhys Ifans) may be able to help them.

Harry and Hermione visit Bathilda Bagshot; however, Bathilda turns into Nagini. Harry finds Gryffindor’s sword in a pond; but, Slytherin’s Locket tries to stop him. In the grand tradition of third-act rom-com misunderstandings, Ron comes back and there is a reconciliation. Ron is able to beat his fear of Harry and Hermione err… having ice cream… and Slytherin’s Locket is no more.

We then reunite with Xenophilius and we discover that the Deathly Hallows are:

1. The Resurrection Stone

2. Cloak of Invisibility

3. Elder Wand

Anyway, it turns out that Xenophilius has thrown Harry under the bus so that he (Xenophilius) can get Luna back. Snatchers grab Harry.

We then get the famous Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) carving Hermione like a Thanksgiving turkey scene. We then get the famous Dobby (voiced by Toby Jones) dies scene. Finally, Voldy grabs a wand from Dumbledore’s final resting place.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is still a good movie.
