Does Mrs. Doubtfire hold up?

So we start off by meeting actor Daniel Hillard (the fantastic Robin Williams). Daniel is married to Miranda Hillard (the fantastic Sally Field). Daniel and Miranda have three kids:

3. Natalie Hillard (Mara Wilson)

Anyway, Daniel and Miranda get divorced; so, Daniel masquerades as the nanny Mrs. Doubtfire so that he can stay close to the kids. Miranda starts dating Stuart “Stu” Dunmeyer (the fantastic Pierce Brosnan), and…

I know that I’m preaching to the choir here; but, the writing on the Pierce Brosnan character is great. Stu is not a jerk, he is not after Miranda for her money, he is not cheating on Miranda and he is not trying to ship Miranda’s brats off to Switzerland.

Anyway, Lydia and Chris find out the truth. Miranda finds out the truth after Daniel almost kills Stu, and…

This movie is dark.

Anyway, Daniel-as-Mrs. Doubtfire becomes a children’s show host. Miranda and Daniel decide to stay divorced, they share parenting responsibilities, and…

I love this ending because it is realistic for children of divorced parents. 

Mrs. Doubtfire is still a good family movie. It has good writing on the Pierce Brosnan character, the acting is great and it is a realistic movie for children of divorced parents.
