Does Cinderella II: Dreams Come True hold up?
Let’s find out:
Aim to Please
Cinderella (voiced by Jennifer Hale) is holding parties at the palace. Cinderella defies tradition and this makes the King happy.
This segment gave me a weird complex on opening curtains and it has a weird emphasis on chocolate pudding.
Tall Tail
Jaq (voiced by Rob Paulsen) is unhappy with himself. The Fairy Godmother makes Jaq a human (Sir Hugh) and Jaq learns self-acceptance.
An Uncommon Romance
Anastasia (voiced by Tress MacNeille)(Cinderella’s stepsister) loves a baker. Lady Tremaine (voiced by Susanne Blakeslee) and Drizella (voiced by Russi Taylor) hate the romance. Cinderella helps Anastasia with her love life, and…
I thought this segment was really interesting because character development for the wicked stepsister in Cinderella stories is rare (Ever After being the most notable exception).
Like Belle’s Magical World, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True is clearly cobbled together from a rejected Cinderella TV series; however, I did like it slightly more than Belle’s Magical World and I do remember liking it as a kid. Tall Tail is kind of a dud segment; however, An Uncommon Romance does give Anastasia character development and this Disney sequel, unlike many of the other ones, does not ruin the characters. It is a Cinderella cash-in. It is benign.
