The Lion King (1994) Movie Review

Does The Lion King hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off with the mesmerizing Circle of Life sequence.

We then meet Scar (voiced by the fantastic Jeremy Irons) and we find out that he is:

1. Mufasa’s younger brother

2. Next for the throne before Simba was born

Anyway, Mufasa (voiced by the fantastic James Earl Jones) arrives and he and Scar argue for a bit.

We then reunite with Simba (voiced by the fantastic Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and we get the famous Everything the light touches scene. We then get the morning report scene and I forgot to mention Zazu (voiced by the fantastic Rowan Atkinson). Simba finds out about an elephant graveyard, he gets Nala (voiced by the fantastic Niketa Calame) and we get I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.

Anyway, Simba and Nala arrive at the graveyard; but, they run into hyenas (Shenzi (voiced by the fun Whoopi Goldberg), Banzai (voiced by the fun Cheech Marin) and Ed (voiced by Jim Cummings)); however, Mufasa saves Simba and Nala.

Mufasa gives Simba the dad lecture that all of us got when we were kids.

We then get Be Prepared.

Okay, so, let’s talk about the famous stampede/Mufasa death scene.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas is excellent in this scene.

Anyway, Scar takes over, Simba leaves, Simba meets Timon (voiced by the fantastic Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (voiced by the fantastic Ernie Sabella), we get Hakuna Matata

and Simba is now voiced by Matthew Broderick.

We then reunite with Nala (now voiced by the fantastic Moira Kelly), we get Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Simba and Nala fight and Simba finds Rafiki (voiced by the fantastic Robert Guillaume). We then get the famous the past can hurt scene and Simba returns home.

Simba finds out that Scar killed Mufasa and we get a battle between the lions and the hyenas. Scar and Simba fight, Scar throws the hyenas under the bus and the hyenas eat Scar.

Simba and Nala present their child and the Circle of Life continues.

The Lion King is still a classic. It is still an epic.
