Runaway Bride (1999) Movie Review

Does Runaway Bride still hold up?

Let’s find out:

So we start off by meeting Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts), who continuously leaves grooms at the altar.

We then meet Ike Graham (Richard Gere). Ike is a columnist who writes an article on Maggie, Maggie refutes the article, Ike gets fired and he decides to prove/defend his article by proving that his overall theory on Maggie was correct. However, Ike’s presence in Maggie’s life is very irritating to her.

Ike discovers that Maggie is planning to marry high school football coach Bob Kelly (Christopher Meloni) and Maggie (eventually) decides to cooperate with Ike.

Ike discovers that Maggie tailors her likes to those of her fiancés and Ike defends Maggie when her friends and relatives start taunting her at a dinner for her and Bob.

Wedding rehearsal time! Maggie kisses Ike at her and Bob’s wedding rehearsal and Ike and Maggie plan to get married.

Wedding time!… almost. Maggie leaves Ike at the altar, and…

(Insert mandatory rom-com break-up montage here)

Anyway, Maggie (eventually) proposes to Ike and they get married.

I have always said that Garry Marshall films need a better editor; but, Runaway Bride is still a cute rom-com.
