The Perfect Man (2005) Movie Review

I was aging out of my Hilary Duff phase when The Perfect Man came out; but, is it any good?

Let’s find out:

So we start off by meeting baker Jean Hamilton (Heather Locklear). Jean moves herself and her kids (Holly (Hilary Duff) and Zoe (Aria Wallace)) each time that she goes through a break-up, and…

Jean is well on her way to becoming the next Alex Forrest. She’ll probably show up to a PTA meeting in a blood-splattered bakery uniform.

Anyway, Holly is sick of moving; so, she pretends to be her friend (Vanessa Lengies)’s Uncle Ben (Chris Noth) and she corresponds with her mom as Ben.

Yeah, this thing is more incest-y than Crimson Peak.

While Jean is the next Alex Forrest, Ben is your typical unrealistically written Hallmark/rom-com male lead. I was simultaneously laughing/cringing at his line about orchids.

Anyway, after a series of shenanigans, Jean finds out that Holly has been pretending to be Ben. Jean decides to stop being so Alex Forrest-y, she stays put for the sake of her daughters and Ben and Jean get together.

Guys, The Perfect Man is your average Hallmark movie that somehow escaped to the big screen/average rom-com. Also, it is hard to root for the Ben-Jean romance because the audience barely sees them interact.
