Is Eloise at Christmastime any good?
Let’s find out:
So we start off by meeting Eloise (Sofia Vassilieva), who lives at the Plaza Hotel with her nanny (Julie Andrews).
We also get a Disney-ified version of Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holliday) from Gremlins in Mrs. Thornton (Corinne Conley).
We then meet Rachel (Sara Topham), who is engaged to Brooks (Rick Roberts). Rachel’s father, Mr. Peabody (Victor A. Young), approves of Brooks; however, Rachel loves the poor Bill (Gavin Creel, who looks a lot like a young Jim Carrey). Bill and Rachel are an adorable knock-off of Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) from Titanic.
Think about it:
1. Rachel has red hair. Rose has red hair.
2. Rose’s mother (Frances Fisher) disapproves of the poor love interest; however, she approves of the evil, rich love interest (Billy Zane). Rachel’s father disapproves of the poor love interest; however, he approves of the evil, rich love interest.
Anyway, Eloise:
1. Sends Rachel flowers in Bill’s name.
2. Arranges for Bill and Rachel to sing together.
3. Arranges for Bill and Rachel to see Gypsy.
However, it is soon time for Brooks and Rachel’s wedding.
Brooks finds out about Eloise’s meddling and he kidnaps/endangers her; however, Nanny saves her.
Nanny and Eloise arrive during Brooks and Rachel’s wedding and, bizarrely enough, Nanny and Eloise don’t mention the fact that Brooks kidnapped/endangered Eloise to Rachel or Mr. Peabody.
Anyway, Bill arrives and he and Rachel declare their love for each other.
Mr. Peabody confronts Eloise about the ruined wedding, and, even more bizarrely enough, Nanny and Eloise still don’t mention the fact that Brooks kidnapped/endangered Eloise to Rachel or Mr. Peabody.
Anyway, Brooks gets into legal trouble, Mr. Peabody accepts Bill and Rachel as a couple and not-Mrs. Deagle’s subplot gets resolved.
If you can stand some of Eloise’s more annoying antics, you just may find a cute little Christmas movie.
